Book yourself in for a free NHS health check

Even if you feel well, make sure you stay fit and healthy by taking advantage of a free health check.

If you are aged between 40 and 74, a NHS health check is free and only takes 30 minutes by a trained healthcare professional.

Getting checked out can lower the risk of developing conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and certain types of dementia. Councillor Peter Miller, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said:

“It’s important that if you are eligible you take up this important check. Your NHS Health Check provides an opportunity for you to take control over your own health.

“As you get older you have a higher risk of developing serious conditions. Your free NHS health check can spot signs early and help prevent these happening, which means you’ll be more likely to enjoy life longer.”

An awareness campaign will run throughout September, with the free health check being advertised in bus shelters and on billboards, as well as going out on local radio and on social media.
