Brierley Hill company fined after worker loses finger

A Brierley Hill manufacturing firm has been fined more than £23,000 after a worker lost his finger.

The man was injured at AJ Metal Products Ltd in Bevan Road, when his glove got caught in the rollers of a machine used for bending metal. Despite surgery, his finger could not be saved and had to be amputated.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive found the company had failed to ensure a number of safety measures.

They admitted breaching health and safety laws and in addition to the fine, were ordered to pay costs of £1,750 at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
