Dudley Council appoints new strategic director for people

Dudley Council has appointed Martin Samuels as its next strategic director for people.

Martin is currently the director for adults and wellbeing at Herefordshire Council and comes with more than 25 years of public service experience. He will join the authority in April. Martin has a wealth of experience in delivering children’s and adults’ social care services and improving health and wellbeing outcomes.

As strategic director for people he will be key to delivering effective high quality services on a wide range of initiatives to support our children, adults and communities.

He will oversee the continued transformation of children’s and adults’ services and work to develop even closer ties with partner organisations and community groups across the borough to continue enabling residents to live their lives the way they wish. Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Martin to Dudley Council. He brings a wealth of experience and a strong track record in delivering in adult social care, public health and wellbeing and children’s services.

“His strategic vision and a grasp of the issues across the whole portfolio will be a great asset to the council as we continue to improve and modernise services, making a positive difference to the people of Dudley.”

Martin added: “I am honoured and excited to be joining Dudley Council. Having worked in the Black Country before, I value the energy and good humour of the residents.

"I look forward to building on the good work that’s already been done and being part of the future for the borough. A constant theme throughout my career has been a passion to work with local communities to help vulnerable residents live fulfilling lives.”

Martin is expected to take up the post in early April, subject to full approval by council on February 19th.
