A cancer charity has equipped Dudley GP surgeries with £11,502 worth of specialist information boards.

Macmillan Cancer Support said the boards, which have been donated to 39 surgeries across the borough, will act as an information point specifically for advice on the disease. Karen Webb, administrator at Eve Hill Medical Practice in Himley Road, Dudley, said:

"We’ll be able to stock these areas with information that matters to our patients, whether it’s about certain types of cancer, about treatment options and clinical trials, or about support for carers and family members."

Dr Lucy Martin, a Macmillan GP at the surgery, and the driving force behind the initiative, added:

"Every year, over 1,700 people in the Dudley area are diagnosed with cancer and many more people are living with the disease, so these information points are a really welcome addition to our GP surgeries.

"Macmillan research has shown that 43 per cent of cancer patients would like more information than they’re given, and these information boards would help more people understand cancer and make better choices about their treatment and care."
