Dudley Woman Raises More Than £2000 For Charity

A local woman has raised £2440 for three local charities by shaving her head.

Dawn Hawthorne, from the Priory Estate in Dudley, shaved her head on the 1st April in support of the Mary Stevens Hospice, the Georgina Unit at Russell's Hall and The Whitehouse Cancer Support.

The sponsored headshave took place in The Three Crowns Taphouse in Dudley, and Dawn was also supported by her friends, loved ones and local businesses in putting on a raffle to raise additional funds for the three charities. Dawn said:

“They're three fantastic charities that do a lot of good in our area, and support people through some incredibly difficult times.

"It's fantastic to have raised so much money for them, and I know that it will make a huge difference to the people they help on a daily basis.”

Dan Malin from Mary Stevens Hospice added:

“It's an absolutely fantastic effort by Dawn, and the money she's raised will make a huge difference to the families who rely on our support.

"To engage the local community in the way she did is what it's all about, and to know that so many people and businesses came together to help a remarkable woman raise a remarkable amount of money is something we're just so grateful for.

"Thank you to Dawn, and to everyone who worked so hard to help make it a success.”

The money was split into 3 almost equal parts, with the Mary Stevens Hospice and Georgina Unit each receiving £820, and The Whitehouse receiving a donation of £800.
