Free bus service available for Himley bonfire

Event organisers have confirmed that the popular free bus service for people travelling to and from Himley bonfire will return this year.

Dudley Council’s circus-themed fireworks and bonfire night at Himley Hall and Park will be on Saturday November 6 with gates opening at 4:30pm. The bonfire will be lit at 7:45pm and the fireworks will start at 8:30pm.

A number of free bus routes will be available as in previous years to help people travel to and from the event - with the addition of a new bus service covering the Wombourne area. The new 248 service will leave Wombourne Church every 20 minutes from 4.30pm, picking up passengers along the route from Church Road, High Street, Gravel Hill, Common Road, Dudley Road and drop off at the Dudley Arms pub lay-by.

The last bus to Himley will be 7.50pm. The return service to Wombourne will pick up opposite the Dudley Arms lay-by, starting from just after 9pm.

The other free bus services will drop off at the bus gates at Himley Hall. People can board the buses at recognised bus stops along the routes.

Routes include the 249 service from Quarry Bank (Cradley Heath interchange), via Brierley Hill from the Waterfront East car park (park and ride) as well as the 250 service from Dudley bus station every 5 minutes via Wolverhampton Street, Himley Road and Stallings Lane.

The 251 starts from Halesowen Bus Station through Colley Gate via Lye and Stourbridge Bus Station towards Kingswinford.

Buses will run every nine minutes from Roseville in Coseley using the 252 service which goes via Sedgley and the 253 is also a dedicated free bus service starting from Stourbridge bus station at 4.15pm via Wordsley and Kingswinford. Councillor Shaun Keasey, cabinet member for digital, customer and commercial services, said:

"The annual Himley bonfire attracts thousands of people and has become something of a tradition for many families. The fireworks have a circus theme this year and, together with a soundtrack to match, it will be spectacular.

"We want to ensure that the visitors to the bonfire have a safe journey to and from Himley and by providing the free bus service, we are trying make it accessible to as many people as we can from all over the borough.

"Car parking at Himley is limited and therefore we would encourage people to use the free bus service where possible."

Tickets for the event can be purchases online in advance at himleyhallandpark.co.uk. Full details of bus times and routes for all the free buses to and from Himley bonfire and details of the event can be found online.
