Free events for carers in Dudley

A number of events are being put on over the next few weeks at the new Dudley Carers Hub.

The centre, based at Queens Cross Network on Wellington Road, offers support and advice to borough carers.

A free event will take place on Friday November 30 from 10am to 2pm. Run in partnership with Dudley Safeguarding Adults Board, it is aimed at all carers caring for a family member, friend or neighbour. The event will outline what safeguarding means and how to report any concerns or worries about an adult who may be at risk. Free lunch and refreshments are provided.

There are also two free Christmas craft sessions being put on in December for carers to come along and relax and socialise. On Tuesday December 4, between 1pm and 3pm, the theme is Driftwood Decorations. The following week, on Tuesday December 11, candle making runs at the same time. Refreshments will be provided.

A carers café also runs on the third Thursday of every month at the hub from 10.30am to 1pm. It provides an opportunity for carers to socialise and there are often guest speakers. Booking is not required and people can just pop along. The next one is on Thursday December 20. Councillor John Martin, cabinet member for adult social care, said:

"Carers play a crucial role in our communities, with many working around the clock caring for a loved one or friend. We want to support them through this new carers hub, and I would encourage people to come along to one or more of the events to see for themselves how we can help and support them.”

The Dudley Council-run hub is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, with people able to pop in at a time to suit them. Staff are on hand to offer information and advice as well as emotional and wellbeing support and respite services.

To book for any of the events, contact Dudley Carers Hub on (01384) 818723 or email carers.network@dudley.gov.uk.
