Halesowen Carnival invites brave young fighter to be VIP for the day

Seven-year-old 'Finn The Fabulous' will be the guest of honour at the event which takes place on Saturday 6th July at Highfield Park on Highfield Lane.

Finley, who's Mum, Jo, was a guest on Late Night Clive, suffers from rare immune system disorder which has resulted in him desperately needing a stem cell donor.

More than 1,000 potential donors have already put themselves forward and it's hoped more will sign up with blood cancer charity, DKMS, who have also been invited to the event, in a bid to find a match for Finley.

Only two per cent of people in the UK are on the stem cell register and the fact that Hagley Primary School pupil Finley has a rare tissue type makes finding a donor even harder. However, signing up is incredibly easy; after applying for a free kit, donors take three swabs from inside the cheek and if they are found to be a potential match, donating stem cells is often done via a process much like giving blood, although in a small number of cases a small operation is required.

Finley’s family, including parents Paul and Jo, and friends are also urging local business to hold stem cell donor drives at their workplaces. Anybody who's interested in finding out more can get in touch via facebook.com/finnthefabulous.

Halesowen Carnival takes place on Saturday 6th July from midday to 8pm.
