Heartbreak after missing Stourbridge man, Matthew Gill, is found dead

Friends and family of Matthew have been left devestated after his body was discovered this afternoon.

Officers investigating Mr Gill's disappearance located a body in woodland close to Prestwood Drive in Stourbridge, yesterday afternoon.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and, although the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing 43-year-old. Mr Gill’s partner, Annette, released a statement on social media. She said:

“It is with unbearable sadness that we must let you know that our search for Matt is over. Matt was found on the afternoon of Sunday 26th November.

“At this awful time, we would really appreciate you giving Matt’s family and friends time to come to terms with this news and to grieve in private.

“If you feel inspired to express your condolences to Matt’s partner Annette, her family and his friends and family, we will be creating a Facebook page in memoriam of Matt in due course.”

The family conducted a heartfelt campaign to find Matt, known to those closest to him as ‘Liggy’. They have requested that posters and leaflets are removed and speculation or gossip is avoided. Annette added:

”Matt has inadvertently created something extraordinary at the end of his life. Please always remember how he pulled everyone together, friend and stranger.

“To honour Matt’s memory please always remain kind and look out for others. We will never forget your contribution.”
