Local singers to join West End star at Birmingham Hippodrome

Young singing stars will join Broadway and West End leading lady Marisha Wallace on stage when her debut UK tour hits Birmingham.

The powerhouse star of such smash-hit shows as Dreamgirls, Waitress, Aladdin and The Book of Mormon will soon return to the West End as Motormouth Maybelle, in Hairspray.

However, before she does, she will play a series of live shows throughout March, with students from BITA Musical Theatre joining her on stage when she plays The Patrick Centre at Birmingham Hippodrome on March 14th.

Aged from 12 to 19, BITA students will join the star for what will be an unmissable rendition of ’This Is Me’ from the blockbuster movie The Greatest Showman. Chris Passey and Attiye Partridge, Artistic Directors, at BITA (Birmingham Institute of Theatre Arts) said:

"We are so grateful to Marisha for the opportunity to support her in our hometown at the incredible Birmingham Hippodrome’s Patrick Centre.

“Marisha is an icon of Broadway and West End and we know that our amazing students will do themselves, and Birmingham, proud."

Marisha is currently winning rave reviews in the West End smash hit Waitress and will soon play the iconic role of Motormouth Maybelle in the eagerly awaited West End return of Hairspray, alongside Michael Ball.

Before then, Marisha cannot wait for her debut UK tour and to perform alongside young singers from Birmingham. Marisha said: “I am so happy the young performers from BITA are joining me on stage for my Birmingham date.

“This is my first ever headline theatre tour and I really want to make these shows unique and extra special. I cannot think of a better way to do that than to be joined on stage by such super-talented local performers.”
