M5 shut after vehicle gas leak

A gas leak from a crashed car caused the closure of the M5 in both directions yesterday (Sunday).

The vehicle lost control on the northbound carriageway between junction 3 at Halesowen and junction 2 for Oldbury at around 6 o’clock yesterday morning (Sunday).

Gas was leaking from the car, leading emergency services to completely shut the motorway.

It re-opened several hours later.

Diversions were put in place to direct motorists on to the A456 Quinton Expressway and Hagley Road West, then on to the A4123 Wolverhampton Road to the Birchley Island near junction 2.
