Music festival to rock Romsley this weekend

Music lovers will be heading for Romsley this weekend when a popular annual festival rolls into the village.

'Romstock' is returning for its fifth year this weekend after becoming a firm fixture in the Summer festival season. On Saturday the all day musical extravaganza, which has got bigger with every year, is aiming to attract over 1,500 revellers.

Romsley playing field, St Kenelms Road, will be transformed to cater for music, food, bars, bouncy castles and other attractions.

This year's line-up include tribute acts Okasis, The Jam DRC, folk rock band Colin Hall’s Gypsy Blood, ska and soul band Rudi and the Revolvers, Stourbridge’s Esther Turner, Izzy the Push, The Starving Dogs and Elvis. Stourbridge DJ Paul Foster will also be providing entertainment throughout the day. Band coordinator and festival founder Mark Moran said:

“This is the best ever Romstock line up, and there is truly something for everyone no matter what your musical taste may be.

"I think the success of Romstock has really inspired others to see what can be done with a bit of hard work and imagination, I think we have spawned other events like the return of Halesowen Carnival and the creation of Hagfest in Hagley."

The event is being compered by former Birmingham poet laureate Spoz. Romstock was originally launched in 2012 for the Diamond Jubilee when Romsley Parish Council organised a small fete with some bands. Organiser Dave Powell said:

“It proves to be a popular event and last year was our best yet with some 1500 people attending. We are hoping that this year will surpass last and we have a few surprises planned along the way.”

Gates open at midday and the first band takes to the stage at 12.15. The event will end around 8pm.

Advance tickets are priced at £7 for adults (£10 on the day) and £2.50 for children. A family ticket (two adults and two children) is £15 and available from The Spar in Romsley.

All profits from Romstock go towards funding projects in the local parish.
