Nearly half of drivers test positive for drugs during Christmas crackdown

West Midlands police say almost half of drivers they stopped, tested positive for drugs during a Christmas crackdown.

Officers were armed with roadside testing kits after securing £40,000 Government funding for the December drink-and-drug-drive campaign.

Of the 130 motorists stopped and tested 54 were under the influence of illegal substances. The youngest was aged 18 and the oldest 75 years-old.

Police say the results show that they’re serious about cracking down on drink and drug drivers.
