Oldswinford chippy voted as town's favourite

Stourbridge MP, Suzanne Webb has announced the winner of Stourbridge’s Best Takeaway Competition.

Oldswinford Fish and Chips in Hagley Road received the most votes in the online poll after Suzanne asked residents to nominate their favourite eatery.

Owner, Zach Ioannou, was presented with his certificate by Suzanne on Saturday. He will be treated to lunch at the Palace of Westminster as his prize as and when Covid restrictions permit. Suzanne said:

“Many congratulations to Oldswinford Fish and Chips which is a real local institution and a business that has kept its customers fed throughout the lockdowns. They are a worthy winner and thank you to everyone who got involved in the competition.

“It was a bit of fun, but it also had a serious message that takeaways and restaurants all over Stourbridge have given local people a little bit of normality over the last 12 months.

“We have been able to pick up the phone or go online and order our favourite food to our homes and that has been a real morale booster.”

Zach added: “We are delighted to have won, thank you so much! For a local family business that has been going strong for 44 years, we too were also worried when the pandemic hit.

“However, with the wonderful support from our customers and our fantastic staff, we have been able to continue to operate and provide Britain’s favourite traditional dish of fish and chips via our click and collect, delivery and walk-by service in a safe way.

“We would like to thank our customers who voted for us and look forward to serving you for many years to come."
