Police appeal for witnesses after Netherton death

Police are appealing for information after a man was struck by a car on Simms Lane, Netherton this morning.

Officers were called to the road just before 10.30am, where a man in his 80s was seriously injured after a car mounted the pavement and mowed him down.

Sadly, the elderly man who had been stood waiting for a bus, died at the scene.

The driver of the Seat Leon which struck the man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after originally fleeing the scene. Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“I am urging anyone who was on the road and saw what happened to contact us if they have not already done so.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and I’d ask anyone who may have dash cam footage to speak to us at the earliest opportunity.

“My thoughts go out to the family of the man who tragically lost his life this morning and specialist officers will now be supporting them at this difficult time.”
