Police officer stabbed responding to incident in Dudley last night

A Dudley police officer is recovering after being stabbed in the leg after responding to an incident at Asda in Dudley last night.

Officers were called to the supermarket in the High Street at 8.20pm to reports of a woman with a knife. 

Whilst the 19-year-old woman was being detained, one police officer received a stab wound to the leg. Sergeant James Harrison was taken to hospital to be checked over and is now recovering at home. 

The 19-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of wounding. Chief Superintendent Steve Graham, Head of Force Response, said:

“I am proud of the actions and bravery of Sgt Harrison and his team.

“The selfless quick action taken by the team to protect the public from being hurt is an exceptional piece of police work and their actions demonstrate outstanding courage.”

Tom Cuddeford, Interim Chair of West Midlands Police Federation, said:

“Sergeant Harrison and the team’s actions are a real act of bravery and another example of how officers run towards danger to put the safety of the public first.”
