Redditch United manager confirmed for top spot at Yeltz

Halesowen Town FC have announced that Paul Smith, who is currently in charge at Redditch United, will take over as the new manager of the Black Country club.

Smith joins The Yeltz after a spell as manager at Redditch United where last season he met the clubs remit of survival which he achieved comfortably, and was in charge of the Reds in his penultimate game against the Yeltz at the Grove on Easter Monday.

Paul, who lives locally, started his Managerial Career with Alvechurch where he made more than 250 appearances as a player. Following this he moved to manage Studley before, in 2014, he joined Bromsgrove Sporting in what would prove to be his most successful spell as Manager.

He led the Rouslers to second place in Midlands League Division one. The following season saw more success, another second place was gained alongside two cup final appearances. Keith McKenna, joint owner of Halesowen Town, said:

“I'm absolutely delighted to have Paul managing Halesowen Town. He brings a winning mentality and desire to get us promoted straight away.

"He's knowledgeable about the game, organised and a very good communicator. I think the fans will like his style of play and the fact he's is very ambitious."

The move will see Smith replace Lee Hughes, who is currently player-manager of the side. He took over when management duo Rob Smith and Larry Chambers left the Evo-Stik Southern Central league club by mutual consent after their 18 games in charge yielded just 10 points.
