Remote control car event comes to Lightwoods Park

Lightwoods skatepark in Bearwood will see remote control cars riding the ramps for the first time - after the idea was dreamed up by a local schoolboy.

Kiernan Blick came up with the concept after always wanting to ride his RC car on the ramps in Lightwoods Park. He wrote to the staff at Lightwoods House asking if he and his friends would be allowed to use part of the skatepark for their cars - and the concept for an event called Cars Ride The Ramps was born.

Cars Ride The Ramps, which is free to attend for RC enthusiasts who book a place, will be held on Saturday 27 April with two forty five minute sessions at 9am and 10am. Kiernan, who helped design the poster and worked with staff at Lightwoods House to come up with the rules of the event, said:

"I've always wanted to use my remote control car on the ramps but I was worried I'd get in the way of people with skateboards. So I wrote to Lightwoods House and asked if it would be possible to have a bit of the ramps for me and my friends to play on with our cars.

"All of a sudden we were having a meeting and arranging a proper event for us to do it. I'm really grateful for the opportunity and really pleased my idea was listened to."

To book a place at Cars Ride The Ramps, on April 27, email julia_morris@sandwell.gov.uk or call 0121 569 4740. There are 20 spaces available to book for each session and taking part is free.
