Residents warned over bogus callers

With the arrival of the warm summer months and gardens in full bloom, residents are being warned to be on their guard against bogus callers offering to undertake work.

Reports have been made that bogus callers are operating in the Dudley area claiming to be from Dudley Council’s Green Care Team. The bogus callers then demand payment from residents for unnecessary work on the pretext the work has to be done and paid for by residents. Councillor Peter Miller, cabinet member responsible for trading standards said:

“A number of reports have been made about these bogus callers, although fortunately we are not aware that anyone has handed over any money to them.

“All Dudley Council staff carry identification but none will ask for payment of any kind on the doorstep. Payment would never be collected by frontline staff at the door and anyone who does encounter a bogus caller or who has suspicions of any kind should call the Bogus Caller Hotline on 01384 812045.”
