Sandwell’s 'Safer 6' campaign launched at Fire Station Open Day

Sandwell’s Safer 6 campaign is back, promoting safety, crime prevention and healthy living across the borough's six towns.

The Safer Sandwell Partnership campaign, now in its 9th year, will officially launch at a free fun day at Haden Cross Community Fire Station on Saturday 29th September. Residents can visit between 10am and 3pm to watch live rescue demonstrations, explore fire engines, enjoy food, music, singers and circus performers and try out the go kart and ‘beer goggles’ experience.

There will be rides for young children and a bouncy castle and you can also find out about becoming a firefighter, plus a wide range of partner organisations, including local charities and community groups, will be promoting their services.

Each of Sandwell’s six towns will have a focus week with roadshows and activities during the six-week campaign, which runs until 11th November. Sandwell Council is leading this year’s campaign with support from Sandwell Police, West Midlands Fire Service and a wide range of partner organisations and community groups.

The key themes for 2018 include tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, supporting young people, tackling environmental issues and working with partner organisations and local people. Councillor Elaine Costigan, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for public health and protection, said:

“This is about us all working together to give some extra reassurance and advice to our residents as the nights draw in and getting out and about in our towns and neighbourhoods so people know what help and support is available if they have a problem.”

Chief Superintendent Richard Baker, Sandwell Police commander and chair of the Safer Sandwell Partnership, added: “Our partner organisations work closely together day in, day out and we will be building on that during the Safer 6 campaign to help make sure our communities feel safe and protected in their homes and neighbourhoods.”
