Share your memories of Armed Forces Day

Residents are being asked to share their memories of Armed Forces Day.

The annual celebration event which is held in the grounds of Himley Hall has been cancelled for the first time in its 12 year history due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The council will recognise Armed Forces Week with the annual raising of the Armed Forces Day flag atop of the Council House in Dudley on Monday 22 June.

On Wednesday 17 June, Reserves Day, reservists are invited to wear their uniforms to work. It is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the important role reservists play in supporting the UK’s defence capability. Reserves Day provides an opportunity for the whole of the UK to celebrate the Reserve Forces and for reservists to show pride in their service and can be supported with the #SaluteOurForces hashtag on social media.

Dudley Council is also asking residents to share their favourite Armed Forces Day memories from the last 11 years at the council’s Facebook page. The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor David Stanley, said:

“Armed Forces Day at Himley Hall is the biggest event of its kind in the region and I know that there will be many people who will be disappointed that it will not be taking place this year.

“Although we sadly cannot join together this year to celebrate our Armed Forces colleagues we would like to take this opportunity to share our best moments from previous years.”

People can post favourite photos from Monday 22 June to celebrate this week.
