Dudley Council receives gold award

Dudley Council has been presented with a ‘Gold Performance Award’ in recognition of the management of its street information database.

The award was presented at the GeoPlace annual conference, which included the presentation of the Exemplar Awards 2018, earlier this month at Edgbaston Cricket Club by Councillor Ian Ward, Leader of Birmingham City Council.

The Gold Performance Award for Street Data is given to authorities that have consistently reached and maintained the very highest standard in national tests on data excellence and supply of regular updates to the national hub, which manages receipt of street data from all authorities in England and Wales.

Improving public services and overcoming the challenges of data sharing is a key focus for councils. The awards highlight best practice in local authorities using land and property and street information to tie different services from across the council together to give a property level view of services.

The awards highlight custodians' roles within their authorities and enable their work to be more widely promoted to all parts of the authority.  They allow the many services which currently use address and street data to see that the high standard of the data is externally recognised. Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for procurement, transformation and commercialisation, said:

“Dudley has again proved that we are ahead of the game for how we use and manage street data. I would like to personally congratulate the officers involved with this work, especially as this is the second year that they have collected this accolade.”

In presenting the award to Dudley Council Richard Groombridge, National Street Data Manager added:

“Dudley has achieved the highest standard of street information data management.  Achieving this level demonstrates excellence and commitment to a process that brings local and national benefits.”
