Water facility re-opening for the summer

A popular water play facility in a Stourbridge park is re-opening for the summer, just in time for the May Day Bank Holiday.

The free water play facility at Mary Stevens Park, Stourbridge will re-open on Saturday May 5 and will be open daily from 10am to 6pm throughout the summer months.

The facility, which was upgraded last year, features water jets, cannons, a loop spray, a flower water feature and a special area for toddlers.

It also includes fresh rubber surfacing and a new control box with state of the art pumps, which will reduce water waste and operational costs. Alan Lunt, strategic director for place at Dudley Council, said:

“The facility was a big hit with families and youngsters last year and we anticipate thousands will use it again this summer. It’s great we can keep it open daily but I would remind people that the water features only work when triggered by touch sensitive pads on the floor."

People are advised that at busy times the reservoir underneath the play area will take approximately 10 minutes to refill, during which time the water fountains will not operate.

The facility will close at the end of the summer when the new school term begins and will open again in 2019.
