Work begins in Quarry Bank as former fitness club is demolished

The former Helios Health and Fitness club in Quarry Bank, made famous as the health centre on ITV soap Crossroads, has been demolished to make way for a new development.

The facility was also known as the House of Robin and counted a number of famous people as members during the 80s and 90s, including Auf Wiedersehen Pet star, Pat Roach.

It has sat derelict for a number of years since it's last owner, Fitness4Less moved out and it suffered damage after a fire in October 2021.

Planning permission was granted in June 2020 to repurpose the land for a mix of residential development and leisure use, which includes a brand new gymnasium and apartments, with a small housing estate to the rear which will be accessed from Grosvenor Way.
