Work has begun on a new £2.5 million teaching block at Kinver High School.

The new development is finally becoming a reality after the school successfully bid to receive Government funding from the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) in 2016.

The two storey building will provide high quality facilities and accommodation for expanding numbers of students, and include a learning resource centre, ICT room, 10 classrooms, three seminar rooms, a science studio and staff offices. National contractor Speller Metcalfe has been selected to undertake the building works, located on Enville Road. Rob Lashford, Regional Manager at Speller Metcalfe, said:

“We are delighted to have been awarded this fantastic scheme which will make a significant difference to local pupils from all across south Staffordshire, the Dudley area and north Worcestershire.

“We will be working hard to provide opportunities for local employment, as well as opportunities for students to integrate with the project to learn more about the construction industry and the extensive range of practical and professional career options available to them.”

Kinver High School currently provides education for 600, 11-18 year-old students, with pupils increasingly coming from wider areas to reach the school. Headteacher, Chris Rogers, said:

“Here at Kinver High we are all very excited at the prospect of our new build. The building will be a great boost to the school in terms of the quality of learning environment we can provide for our students.”

The project is due for completion in late 2017.
