NEWS: Birmingham Hippodrome launches a huge new season

Birmingham Hippodrome has released full details of unforgettable shows, festivals and free events taking the venues programming firmly into 2018.

The much-loved Hurst Street venue is, quite literally, packed. From the very best in West End and Broadway blockbusters, to the latest in ground-breaking new dance, international opera, classical ballet. There's also a treasure trove of alternative offerings in the Patrick Centre studio as well as the biggest pantomime for miles!

The Hippodrome will deliver even more unforgettable live experiences across its two stages, whilst growing its reputation for free outdoor festivals celebrating the city’s vibrancy.

Newly announced productions include the new UK touring production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s multi award-winning musical, EVITA, West End sell-out comedy The Play That Goes Wrong, worldwide rhythm and dance spectacular STOMP and the first ever UK Tour of Peter Stone’s Tony Award-winning Titanic - The Musical following its critically-acclaimed run at London’s Charing Cross Theatre.

That roster of shows joins the previously announced UK tour of Hairspray which arrives in October, Tom Chambers starring role in Crazy For YouBeautiful - The Carol King Musical and a much anticipated UK tour of Sunset Boulevard starring Ria Jones and Danny Mac.

A second UK tour of Wicked arrives in Birmingham in April 2018

A second UK tour of West End phenomenon, Wicked will turn Birmingham green next April and the brand new musical - The Band - based on the songs of Take That and the first ever tour of Matilda The Musical, winner of seven Olivier and five Tony Awards, complete the line up. Phew!

Fiona Allan, Artistic Director and Chief Executive of Birmingham Hippodrome said:

“Indoor, outdoor, large-scale and intimate – the Hippodrome is making huge efforts to present shows for all ages, all tastes and all budgets. Looking through our Autumn 2017/18 Season, there are so many standout productions to choose from, so many memories to be made.

“Christmas brings our 60th Anniversary pantomime; 'Cinderella', starring Beverley Knight and Danny Mac, Birmingham Royal Ballet’s 'The Sleeping Beauty' and 'War Horse' in the Autumn. It’s going to be an incredible year.

“But it’s not all about the blockbusters, and there are many gems to be found in the programme. Free talks and events and the expanding programme in our Patrick Centre studio offer up a treasure trove of alternative treats.

“Birmingham Hippodrome’s ability to continue to present such amazing productions and events is, of course, down to our audiences. As a charity in receipt of no revenue funding, their support ensures that we can continue to bring unforgettable performances to the heart of the West Midlands.”
