Banelec toast Memory Walk success

Staff at Brierley Hill engineering firm, Banelec, are celebrating after more than doubling their fundraising target for the Alzheimers Society.

The firm organised a Memory Walk in aid of the charity, which took place last weekend. Staff were thrilled to have raised well over their original target of £500, which they set back in August. Office Manager, Jennie Banner said:

"We are really happy with the outcome. So far, we have raised £1,440, and are still waiting for the final count to include the sponsorship money the 20 walkers are collecting from their sponsors.

"We wanted to organise this Memory Walk to show our support to members of staff for whom the effects of Alzheimer’s and dementia have impacted family and friends. Whilst out on the walk and whilst drumming up support, we were really surprised to see the true number of people who have been somehow affected by this debilitating illness.

"I'm so proud of everyone who got involved and donated, helping us to raise money for vital research into finding a cure and improving the lives of those affected, and help give ongoing support for the dedicated carers.”

The walk took place across 10km of canal towpath, which saw the group leave the Rose and Crown in Wordsley, travel along the canal to Brierley Hill, through Withymoor and back to Wordsley.

There's still time to donate on the firm's Just Giving page to help raise even more vital funds for the Alzheimer's Society. To get involved, click here.
