Glow the distance this month with Acorns Childrens Hospice

It’s all systems ‘glow’ as Acorns Children’s Hospice brings its brightest charity walk back to Walsall this month.

Acorns Glow Walk returns for the second year running on 23 October and is urging fundraisers to ‘glow the distance’ in aid of the charity’s hospice in the Black Country.

The event, which was held virtually in 2020 due to Covid-19, will glow one better this year by bringingsupporters together for the seasonal spectacular at Walsall Arboretum. Claire Snape, Area Fundraiser for Acorns in the Black Country, said:

“We’re so excited to be able to hold Acorns Glow Walk in person this year, the countdown has already begun!

“We want friends, family and colleagues to come together and light up Walsall Arboretum for our biggest and brightest Glow Walk yet.”

Acorns Glow Walk offers something for everyone with a fun 5km or a more challenging 10km route.

Participants will get an exclusive Glow Walk t-shirt, a fundraising pack, glow accessories, and an Acorns medal upon completion. Claire added:

“This is the perfect event to capture the magic of autumn and shine the spotlight on Acorns in the Black Country, a lifeline which supports around 200 local families every year.

“Grab your glow sticks, wear your brightest outfits and glow the distance for Acorns in the Black Country. Every bit of fundraising – no matter how big or small – will help our hospice in Walsall continue to provide exceptional love, care and support to every child and family that needs it.”

Acorns Children’s Hospice provide specialist palliative care for life limited and life threatened children and young people, and support for their families, including those who are bereaved.

In the past year, Acorns in the Black Country has supported for over 210 children and their families.

It costs the charity £7,000 every day to run its hospice in Walsall, the majority of which comes from generous donations and fundraising by the local community.

Tickets for Acorns Glow Walk are priced £10 for adults, £5 for under 14s and under 2s are free.

Those who sign up are urged to set up a fundraising page and join Acorns exclusive Glow Walk Facebook group which will build excitement ahead of the event with challenges and competitions.

Anyone who can’t join in the fun on 23 October can still get into the seasonal spirit by joining the Acorns virtual Glow Walk. Virtual participants have until 31 October to complete their 5km or 10km walk.

There is no entry fee for virtual participants, but those sign up are encouraged to raise a minimum of £10 in sponsorship.
