Stourbridge MP puts support behind hospital expansion proposal

Stourbridge MP, Suzanne Webb, has backed calls for Russells Hall Hospital to extend on its current site during questions to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

Speaking during a statement of COVID-19, Suzanne Webb called for the Government to support Dudley Group NHS Trust’s bid for capital funding to build a modular expansion at the hospital.

The new building would increase capacity for patients and providing much needed extra space to ensure social distancing could be maintained. Suzanne also invited the Secretary of State to visit Russells Hall Hospital and thank the staff and volunteers at the hospital for their hard work and dedication during the coronavirus crisis. Ms Webb said:

“Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley serves my constituency of Stourbridge well. As we start to admit and treat those for surgery and cancer therapy, it urgently require capital investment to create additional wards in a free-standing facility to maintain social distancing.

“Would my Rt Hon. friend join me in visiting Russells Hall Hospital to discuss this much needed investment and of course to thank its staff personally for their continued compassionate and heroic efforts to protect its patients and staff from COVID-19.”

In his response, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock said:

“I’m delighted to thank everybody at Russells Hall for the work they’re doing and I’m pleased to be able to confirm that we are working hard to restore cancer services.

“I would love to come and visit whether virtually or physically.”
