Theatre Set To Reopen Doors After Dramatic Summer Transformation

Wolverhampton Grand Theatre is set to begin its run up to Christmas with a gala performance which officially relaunches the venue after a seven week refurbishment.

Work which took place between July 25th and September 4th, saw the ground level of the theatre completely redesigned. The original merchandise and confectionary kiosks have been replaced by a brand new bar which will be open during the day as well as evening performances. From 11am, Monday to Saturday, the lobby will serve a variety of drinks including coffee and tea to the Wolverhampton public.

The new look Grand also boasts waiter-service booths, which can be reserved during performances, as well as various spaces which cater for everything from live performance to meetings. Designer Grant Bushell has focussed heavily on a 1920s/30s style with modern twists, giving a luxurious and sumptuous feel, oozing with showbiz glamour from the golden age of Hollywood.

The dress circle foyer has also been totally redesigned and is now the venues premium offering; 'Arthurs at The Grand', sponsored by renowned cutlery designers, Arthur Price. Simon Price, Chief Executive of the Lichfield based firm said:

"I have always been a huge fan of Wolverhampton Grand, having visited for the first time nearly 50 years ago. The dress circle bar is now a destination in its own right, being a lavish and very special experience."

The auditorium's 1200 chairs have been replaced with brand new models, designed especially for The Grand, with those in the stalls and dress circle being fitted with brass plaques. These can be engraved with a sponsorship message of your choice, with details of the scheme being released in the coming weeks. Chief Executive of Wolverhampton Grand, Adrian Jackson, added:

"It's been an incredible path. We like to think we've transformed the Grand Theatre - it's always been a very special place but the heart in the building now is incredible."

Wolverhampton Grand kicks off it's pre-Christmas schedule with a Gala evening, hosted by Angela Rippon, on Saturday 10th September. There’s also the chance to see shows like The Shawshank Redemption, The Sound Of Music, Dirty Dancing and their 2016 pantomime; Aladdin! For more information head online to grandtheatre.co.uk.
