It doesn't seem like five minutes since the run up to Christmas was more about what toys were in the Argos catalogue and whether you bought the mince pies with or without the brandy in (with, obviously).

However nowadays, it seems the public consciousness is peaked by the release of the Christmas TV advert. For the sake of this article, we're going to say it's all thanks to John Lewis...but we know it's really Geoffrey the Giraffe who kicked off proceedings.
