First Winter Fete at the school in years organised by the brand new school PTA. Trying to improve our children's school the only way we know how.
I’m getting in touch on behalf of the parents at St Philip’s School in Smethwick to share a positive local story and to see whether it might be something you’d like to feature on air.
This year, the school is holding its first Winter Fete in many years, organised entirely by a group of volunteer parents who are working hard to support the school through budget pressures and falling pupil numbers. For many of us, St Philip’s has been part of our families for over two decades, so this event means a great deal to our community.
The fete is shaping up to be a brilliant local event. The Mayor will be attending, and we’ve had fantastic support from the community and local organisations, including Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion donating prizes, items from Manchester United, and contributions from Asda, Argos and Sainsbury’s. The Fire Service will also be there, and families can enjoy a free Santa’s Grotto.
All the money raised will go towards purchasing a school minibus so pupils can attend sports fixtures and educational trips without the huge cost of taxis. In the past, several of our children have even been spotted by scouts at tournaments, but rising transport costs have meant many of those opportunities have been cancelled.
We’d be really grateful if you could help us spread the word—perhaps with a short mention on air, or even by visiting the fete on the day to capture some live reactions from parents, children and staff.
Thank you so much for your time and any support you can offer.
