15-year-old charged with Blackeath knife drama

A teenager has been charged by police for offences that caused the lockdown of Blackheath town centre.

The 15-year-old has been remanded in custody following an arrest made on Saturday, May 27, after a fire was started in the toilets of Sainsbury's in Blackheath at around midday.

Armed police rushed to the scene after the boy was seen fleeing the store with a knife.

He was arrested nearby on Saturday and cops were granted an extension for questioning him.

The 15-year-old has now been charged with possession of a bladed article and two further charges of making an explosive substance and maliciously causing an explosive substance to endanger life.

No members of the public were hurt during the incident and road closures that were put in place on the day, have now been lifted in the area.
