Dudley MP, Sonia Kumar has welcomed new government investment of £88,644 to improve healthcare opportunities for patients in Dudley.
The funding, awarded to Eve Hill Medical practice through the government-funded National Institute for Health and Care Research, will support the refurbishment of existing space at the practice to establish a dedicated research facility alongside the purchase of essential clinical equipment.
The investment will enable the practice to take part in more clinical research studies while ensuring that day-to-day NHS services continue as normal.
New equipment funded through the grant will include blood pressure monitors, an ECG machine, examination couches, and specialist medical refrigeration to support clinical trials and advanced research activity.
By increasing the capacity for clinical research in Dudley, the funding will allow more local patients to take part in trials and benefit from cutting-edge treatments, helping to reduce regional inequalities in access to medical research.
The government says the investment forms part of wider efforts to strengthen the UK’s position as a global leader in life sciences while improving patient care across the NHS.
Ms Kumar said: “This is fantastic news for Dudley and for patients at Eve Hill Medical Practice.
"Investing in research capacity within our NHS means local people can benefit from the latest medical advances while helping shape the treatments of the future.
"As a former NHS physiotherapist, I know how important research and innovation are in improving patient care. This funding will help ensure that patients in Dudley have greater opportunities to participate in clinical trials and access the very best healthcare.
"I look forward to seeing the positive impact this investment will bring for our community.”
Dr Zubir Ahmed MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Health Innovation and Safety, confirmed the award in a letter, stating the investment will help expand research opportunities for patients and strengthen the NHS’s ability to deliver innovative treatments.
The new facility will increase research capacity without affecting routine NHS services, ensuring that Dudley patients can benefit from both improved healthcare today and medical breakthroughs in the future.
