People can master indoor rock climbing thanks to a new course starting at Crystal Leisure Centre next month.

The Dudley Council facility in Stourbridge will run the climbing courses on its indoor climbing wall under the supervision of a qualified instructor.

The beginners course is suitable for those with little or no experience and participants will learn the basics of climbing including the essential skills of rope work and belaying.

The hour long classes, for those aged 16 and over, will run every Tuesday from 6 September until 6 December excluding Tuesday 25 October.

The 13 week course costs £88.40 and includes hire of harnesses and helmets. Payment will need to be paid in full on enrolment. A 50 per cent discount is available for Options+ leisure discount card holders. Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member responsible for leisure centres, said:

“Climbing is fantastic exercise and a fun and challenging sport and these lessons are a great way to gain confidence. The courses fill up quickly so I would advise anyone interested to book on quickly.”
