Battle of Britain to commemorate heroes

The Deputy Mayor of Dudley will attend a special service this Sunday to commemorate the borough’s Battle of Britain heroes.

The Royal Air Force Association Dudley Branch has organised a special parade, with a wreath laying service in Dudley town centre.

Every year the borough pays its respects to the people who lost their lives in the World War II battle of the skies, as well as armed forces personnel serving today.

Royal Air Force cadet squadrons from across the region will join with civic dignitaries for the service.

The parade will step off from the Market Place at 10.25am followed by the service and wreath laying at the cenotaph on Coronation Gardens.

The service will be led by Padre Father Adam Hadley and include a two-minute silence.

Councillor Mushtaq Hussain, Deputy Mayor of Dudley, said: “This gathering serves as an important reminder of the bravery and sacrifice made by people who gave so much for our country.

“I am sure people from across the borough will join us in commemorating the Battle of Britain and I am honoured to be attending the event in Dudley.”

There will be road closures in the town centre from 2am on Sunday 12 September.
