A Birmingham Green Party councillor has been charged with assaulting five people – including three police officers.
Siobhan Harper-Nunes was recently elected as a councillor in the Ladywood ward and also ran for the West Midlands mayoral election back in 2024.
West Midlands Police says officers were called to reported disorder near the junction of Monument Road and Hagley Road on Thursday, August 6 before a woman was arrested on suspicion of assault.
The force has since confirmed that Siobhan Harper-Nunes has been charged with assaulting a member of the public, three police officers and a member of police staff.
The Birmingham Green Party has said that she has been suspended from the Green Party Group with immediate effect pending an investigation.
In a statement, West Midlands Police said: “We were called to disorder near the junction of Monument Road and Hagley Road at around 5pm on August 6. A woman was arrested on suspicion of assault.
“This afternoon, Siobhan Harper-Nunes, aged 66, of Monument Road, was charged with assaulting a member of the public, three police officers and a member of police staff.”
She has been bailed to appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on September 10.
