Birmingham Hippodrome bosses have announced that the theatre will continue to remain closed until at least November 2020.
The impact of COVID-19 has been devastating for the industry, especially for charitable organisations like Birmingham Hippodrome who do not receive any regular revenue subsidy. Almost all of the theatre's income comes from ticket sales meaning it currently have no revenue stream.
The venue's management team are working with governing bodies and other UK venues to explore ways to reopen safely, but whilst social distancing measures are still in place the Hippodrome will remain closed for the foreseeable future. A spokesperson for the theatre said:
"We know how disappointing it has been to not see your favourite shows and we are working hard with producers to secure rescheduled dates where possible.
"As we receive information for shows we will be contacting customers via email. The team are currently dealing with a high volume of bookings, so we kindly ask all ticket holders to avoid contacting Birmingham Hippodrome directly to minimise incoming enquiries.
"We want to be there for you when this crisis is over and continue to bring your favourite productions to Birmingham, but, without support, the implications of this situation will be long-lasting for the Hippodrome and the region.
"We would therefore be hugely grateful if our affected customers would kindly consider an exchange, credit on account or a donation of some, or all, of the cost of your ticket to support Birmingham Hippodrome’s future. We understand that this is an extremely difficult time for many, and this option is not possible for everyone. Thank you for your continued support."
