Birmingham theatre presents award-winning Broadway show

(L-R) Graham MacDonnell and Steven Rostance star in A Steady Rain at The Old Joint Stock

Birmingham's Old Joint Stock theatre is set to host a limited engagement of a multi-award-winning Broadway show this October.

A Steady Rain will play at the city-centre venue from Wednesday 16th to Saturday 19th October.

Steven Rostance will play Denny and Graham MacDonnell takes on the role of Joey and will lead a cast who bring this gripping and gritty police procedural thriller to life this Halloween season.

The show's Director, Liam Alexandru, said:  “There are so many avenues we could take for our Halloween show this year, anything from your traditional gothic horrors to your lighthearted, almost panto-esque ventures.

"With a piece such as ‘A Steady Rain’ there's almost a real horror here that is inescapable. This isn’t a fantasy world full of make-believe monsters and heroes to save the day.

"It’s a story that is a little too close to the bone, where truth and justice doesn’t always win, set in the real world with elements of plot we see every day when we turn on the six o’clock news.

"This show perfectly compliments the other wonderful Halloween material coming to the Old Joint Stock and will no doubt leave the audience speechless and, perhaps, a little perturbed.”

A Steady Rain is a crime thriller inspired by the Dahmer Murders. It opened on Broadway i 2009, starring Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig. It won the Joseph Jefferson Awards for Best New Work, Best Actor for Randy Steinmeyer, and Best Production.

It tells the story of Joey and Denny, who have been best friends since kindergarten. After working together for several years as policemen in Chicago, they are practically family. But when a domestic disturbance call takes a turn for the worse, their friendship is put on the line.

The result is a harrowing journey into a moral grey area where trust and loyalty struggle for survival against a sobering backdrop of pimps, prostitutes, and criminal lowlifes.
