The Oldbury resident had a lucky escape yesterday evening after a fire broke out in his kitchen.

West Midlands Fire Service crews from Oldbury, Smethwick and West Bromwhich stations attended the blaze at Alfred Gunn House.

After being alerted to the scene, crews arrived within four minutes to find the man and safely rescue him from his home.

After the flames were extinguished, it was discovered that the fire began after a pan was left on the stove.
