Boxing Day fruit feast for winged zoo residents

Dudley Zoo’s colourful collection of lories and lorikeets have been filmed enjoying a delicious Boxing Day fruity feast.

Head of Birds Nicola Wright said: “Because the zoo is generally quieter over the winter period, there are fewer visitors feeding nectar to the birds so we put out extra fruit for them to enjoy.

“It’s wonderful to watch them flocking to tuck into the sweet fruit and I love the close-up picture I managed to get of a black-capped lory who had just lapped up some of the delicious pear.”

Lorikeet Lookout opened in May 2016 and houses free flying Australian rainbow lorikeets and black-capped lories. Visitors are able to interact with the stunning birds by feeding them from pots of a sweet nectar, made up by keepers each day.
