By-election confirmed for St James’s ward

A by-election for St James’s ward will take place on Thursday 29 October, following the resignation of former councillor, Ivor Robinson.

The Notice of Election was been published yesterday. Anyone wishing to stand as a candidate must deliver their nomination papers to Electoral Services at The Council House in Priory Road by 4pm on Friday 2 October. Further information on the nomination process is available on the council’s website.

Residents must be registered to vote by 11:59pm on Tuesday 13 October. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 14 October, while applications for a proxy vote must be received by 5pm on Wednesday 21 October.

Voters attending a polling station must bring an accepted form of photo ID. This includes passports, driving licence and certain travel passes. A full list of accepted identification is available on the Dudley Council website.

Anyone who does not have an accepted form of photo ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. Applications must be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday 21 October.

Balvinder Heran, chief executive and returning officer, said: “Residents planning to vote in the St James’s ward by-election should make sure they are registered and have everything they need ahead of polling day.

“If you are voting at a polling station, you will need an accepted form of photo ID or a free Voter Authority Certificate. Anyone wishing to vote by post or proxy should also ensure they apply before the relevant deadlines.”
