Charities are being urged to put themselves forward for free computer equipment.

Dudley Council has handed back nearly 3,000 items of obsolete ICT equipment back to manufacturers Stone since the start of last year.

That haul includes nearly 600 laptops, almost 100 tablets and nearly 500 monitors.

Stone runs a social responsibility scheme which sees large amounts of the equipment handed back donated to a selection of chosen charities.

Council bosses are urging borough charities in need of computer equipment to put themselves forward. Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for procurement, commercialisation and transformation, said:

We only hand kit back when we can find no further use for it at the authority, but it’s great to see that it is put to good use by Stone and handed out to worthy causes to use.

I wanted to make charities in our borough aware of this scheme, and to encourage them to put themselves forward if they would benefit from such equipment.
