Children in Care and Care Leavers Awards nominations now open

Nominations are now open for the annual Dudley Children in Care and Care Leavers Awards.

The Children in Care and Care Leavers Awards recognise and celebrate the talents and achievements of Dudley’s looked after children and those leaving care and are hosted by the council, the Children in Care Council ‘Make a Difference’ and the Dudley Care Leavers Forum ‘Our Say Our Way’.

There are six award categories ranging from the Horizon Award which recognises ambition and aspiration to the Fierce Friend award, which recognises a young person who has shown tremendous support to a friend.

The winners will be announced at a prestigious event in October 2019. Every child or young person in care and care leaver will have had different experiences in life, and these awards are designed to acknowledge how these children have made a difference to their own lives or someone else’s. Councillor Ruth Buttery, cabinet member for children and young people, said:

"The awards recognise a child overcoming difficulties, so they know that the Corporate Parenting Board is behind them every step of the way and appreciate how much they are achieving.

"We are looking for as many nominations as possible from people such as social workers, teachers and carers and members of the public. These are the people who will see a child make a difference first hand, and with the Children in Care Awards they have an opportunity to provide a child with the recognition they deserve and demonstrate to that child how proud we are of their progression to adulthood."

The closing Date for Nominations is September 30th. If you’d like any more information about the awards, you can visit dudley.gov.uk/cicawards.
