The leaders of various political groups of Dudley councillors have signed a statement calling for a protest scheduled to be held in the town on Saturday to be cancelled.
Cllr Steve Edwards, Leader of the Black Country Party; Cllr Shaukat Ali, Leader of the Dudley Labour Group and Cllr Ryan Priest, Leader of the Liberal Democrats have all signed the statement, entitled ‘Love Dudley, No to Racism’.
A spokesperson for the group said: “Dudley is a multi-cultural, peaceful place to live and therefore it is alarming that the far right are seeking to provoke hatred and division by organising a protest that targets five properties in the Borough.
"We are further alarmed that the national far right politician, Nick Tenconi, has been invited to attend along with calling for the far right across the country to descend on Dudley.
"We want Dudley to remain a peaceful multi-cultural town where people of different faiths, no faith and different heritage backgrounds live and work together without the scapegoating of minorities or racial conflict.
“If you love Dudley and hate racism we call upon everyone to gather in Dudley on 26th September to show your opposition to the far right trying to incite racial tensions in our town or intimidate any community of people.
"We call upon the far right, including Nick Tenconi, to stay away from Dudley and leave us in peace.
The statement has also been endorsed by Dudley Trades Union Council and Dudley Central Mosque & Muslim Community Centre.
