Community call to take over the running of Sycamore Adventure Centre

Dudley Council is seeking expressions of interest from community organisations to take over the management of the Sycamore Adventure Centre.

Under the proposals, the council would retain ownership of the centre but would hand over the day-to-day management of the centre to a community partner though a Community Lease arrangement.  This arrangement will give long term security to the centre while allowing the community partner to bring their own ideas to the table and direct the future of the much loved site.

The council is looking to find a community partner to enhance the current offer and make it their own. Being community led would also provide opportunities to apply for voluntary/third sector funding streams not available to the local authority, helping to assure the centre’s long-term future.

Councillor Wayne Little, cabinet member for children's services, said: “Sycamore is a much loved and well-used centre with the community at its heart which is why we want it to be community led.

"We’ve taken it as far as we can, we think that a community partner with passion and vision could make it even better.”

The council is also keen to hear views of how the centre could be developed and innovative ways of adding value to the current offer.

Community organisations who wish to bid should complete a brief document (called Request for Proposal RFP form) to express their interest in managing the Sycamore Adventure Centre.

Full details are on the Sycamore Adventure Play website.
