Competition launched to name new waste trucks

A competition has been launched giving children the chance to name the council’s new waste trucks – with the chance to win a £300 prize for their school.

Entries must be in by Friday June 20. Winners will be selected by a panel led by the Mayor of Dudley.

The new fleet of trucks is coming in as part of Dudley Council’s new household waste service set to launch next year.

It will see separate collections for garden waste, recycling, general waste and food waste.

Councillor Pete Lee, Mayor of Dudley, said: “We're asking children to come up with fun, creative names for our new waste service trucks.

“We’ll be picking over 40 winning names, and each one will be featured on the front of a real truck driving around the borough.

“All the winners will get a certificate of achievement and a photo of their named truck out on the roads. In addition, the top three will win £300 for their schools and a special visit from myself and the Mayoress to present them with their prize.

“You can give your truck any name you like – all we need is a short sentence alongside it explaining why you chose that name. I look forward to seeing all the entries.”

The new waste strategy will see a weekly food waste collection introduced and changes to the current refuse and recycling collections.

The competition will close at 5pm on Friday June 20.

All entries can be hand-delivered to Reception, The Council House, Priory Road, Dudley, DY1 1HF for the attention of Clare Waldron, or can be scanned and emailed to CAPA.Admin@dudley.gov.uk.
