Council give update on construction of new aquatics centre

Sandwell Council is providing residents with an update on construction work taking place on the new Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Smethwick.

Works to prepare the Londonderry Lane site for construction of the centre began in July 2019, with the main construction starting earlier this year after a contract was signed with Wates Construction in November 2019. Councillor Maria Crompton, Sandwell Council's cabinet member with responsibility for leisure, said:

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has given their feedback on this project. We’ve listened to your views and we are working to deliver a world-class leisure facility with a new children’s play area serving the community for generations to come.

As part of an ongoing commitment to keep residents updated on the progress being made, the project team are holding a drop-in session on Tuesday 28th January between 5pm and 8.30pm at West Smethwick Park Pavilion. Officers from the council and Wates Construction will be at the session to answer any questions.

Residents can also comment about the construction of the aquatics centre by emailing aquatics_centre@sandwell.gov.uk.
