Dudley Council has announced proposals for significant additional investment for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in next year’s budget.
Up to £500,000 is earmarked for investment in educational psychologist work, which manages the completion of statutory assessments for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and provides access to specialist advice.
The council has proposed an additional investment of £600,000 in helping eligible children who have EHCPs to receive travel assistance including home-to-school transport.
Proposals also recommend a £200,000 investment to increase capacity within the SEND team by appointing additional case officers, to help with timely and effective management of growing demands.
The local authority has also launched a new Local Offer platform, designed to provide families with clear and accessible information about the SEND services, support and resources that are available.
The refreshed Local Offer platform makes it easier for parents, carers, and professionals to find guidance, connecting families with the right services quickly.
Councillor Wayne Little, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “Investing in our children and young people is a priority and I know families will join me in welcoming this announcement.
“This spending pledge reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring every child here in Dudley borough receives support to thrive.
“We are incredibly excited about our refreshed Local Offer platform, which is driving forward improvements across the SEND system, focusing on early intervention, inclusive education, and collaborative working with families and partners.
“These efforts will help us work towards reducing waiting times, enhancing the quality of support available, and ensuring that every child and young person has the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
