Dudley Council planners are set to approve felling trees in Brierley Hill which are causing a danger to the public.

The council has received a proposal to fell three sycamores and four cherry trees at the Moor Centre.

The trees are close to a section of wall near a bus stop on Moor Street which is moving and experts say will collapse if action is not taken. A report from HW Structural Engineers said: “The areas of particular concern are the high walls around the bus stop area which are leaning.

“After having moved the actual earth pressure may be relieved slightly and the root ball of the trees may also mesh the ground together.

“However, the trees are very close and appear to be the primary reason for the movement. At some point the wall movement will lead to a collapse onto the pavement.

“The movement cannot be altered, and we do not see any safe engineering solution to supporting the walls without impacting the trees behind.”

Dudley planners are also considering an application for seven new homes on a site currently occupied by a garage workshop. An application for demolition of K Motor Services on Phoenix Passage in Dudley has been made to Dudley Council.

The application aims to create a total of seven apartments along with parking and gardens on the site which currently has two one-storey structures and concrete hard standing.

Dudley planners have also been asked to consider an application to build two apartments in an extension to a building which is home to a community pharmacy in Coseley.

The new one-bedroom apartments would be built on the site of the existing car park at Millard and Bullock Chemists on Castle Street. The application includes a request for permission to create a new car park for the pharmacy on land at the rear of the site, with the extension to the existing building for the apartments to be constructed on the existing shop car park.

A statement supporting the application said: “The proposed apartments will emulate this plain and simple architecture with visual interest created by the form of the building which is a direct product of the shape of the site upon which it sits.”
